How to Read the Chakra Energy Spread

7 cardsTarot Guide

What Is the Chakra Energy Reading?

The Chakra Energy Reading is a seven-card tarot spread that maps one card to each of the seven major chakras, the energy centers that run along the spine from the base to the crown of the head. Each card reveals the state of energy in that center — whether it flows freely, feels blocked, or calls for healing attention. The spread gives you an energetic snapshot of your whole being.

This spread is especially valuable for anyone who works with energy healing, Reiki, meditation, or body-based practices. It bridges the symbolic language of tarot with the experiential language of the chakra system, offering insight you can feel as much as read.

The Seven Chakras

Each position in the spread corresponds to one chakra. Here is what each energy center governs:

1. Root (Muladhara) — Safety, Grounding, Physical Needs

Located at the base of the spine, the root chakra governs your sense of safety, security, and connection to the physical world. The card drawn here reveals how grounded you feel and whether your basic needs — shelter, stability, health, financial security — are being met or threatened. Reversed cards in this position often point to anxiety, instability, or disconnection from the body.

2. Sacral (Svadhisthana) — Creativity, Emotions, Pleasure

Seated below the navel, the sacral chakra is the center of creativity, emotional flow, sensuality, and pleasure. This card speaks to your relationship with joy, desire, and creative expression. It can highlight emotional patterns, relationship dynamics, or areas where you may be suppressing or overindulging in pleasure.

3. Solar Plexus (Manipura) — Confidence, Willpower, Identity

Located in the upper abdomen, the solar plexus chakra is your power center. It governs confidence, personal will, self-esteem, and your sense of identity. The card drawn here reflects how empowered you feel and whether you are stepping into your power or giving it away. Pentacles and Wands often appear strongly in this position.

4. Heart (Anahata) — Love, Compassion, Connection

At the center of the chest, the heart chakra bridges the lower physical chakras with the upper spiritual ones. This card reveals the state of your capacity for love, compassion, forgiveness, and connection — both toward others and toward yourself. Cups cards resonate particularly strongly here.

5. Throat (Vishuddha) — Expression, Truth, Communication

The throat chakra governs self-expression, authentic communication, and the ability to speak your truth. This card shows whether you are expressing yourself clearly and honestly or holding back. Swords cards in this position often point to the mental dimension of communication — thoughts you need to voice or words you need to choose more carefully.

6. Third Eye (Ajna) — Intuition, Insight, Clarity

Located between the eyebrows, the third eye chakra is the seat of intuition, inner vision, and wisdom beyond the rational mind. The card here reveals the state of your intuitive gifts — whether you are trusting your inner knowing or second-guessing it. Major Arcana cards in this position carry especially strong weight, as they point to deep archetypal patterns at work in your perception.

7. Crown (Sahasrara) — Spirituality, Purpose, Universal Connection

At the top of the head, the crown chakra connects you to something larger than yourself — purpose, meaning, the divine, the universe, whatever language fits your worldview. This card reflects your spiritual state and your sense of connection to the bigger picture. It often reveals the larger pattern that ties all the other energy centers together.

Reading the Energy Column

After reading each card individually, step back and look at the full column. Here are the key relationships to examine:

  • Root to Sacral. How does your foundation support your emotional and creative flow? A strong root with a blocked sacral may mean you have stability but are not allowing yourself to enjoy it.
  • Solar Plexus to Heart. Is your personal power opening or closing your heart? Sometimes confidence and vulnerability are in tension — the cards will show you where.
  • Throat to Third Eye. Is your expression aligned with your deeper knowing? When these two chakras are in harmony, you speak truth effortlessly. When they are not, you may feel a disconnect between what you sense and what you say.
  • Overall flow. Where is the strongest energy? Where is the resistance? Reversed cards indicate potential blockages. Multiple cards from the same suit suggest a dominant theme running through your energy body.
  • Crown as synthesis. The crown card often reveals the larger lesson or purpose that connects everything below it. Read it last and let it illuminate the whole spread.

Tips for Chakra Readings

  • Pair with the Energy & Healing interpretation style. When you request an AI interpretation, choose the Energy & Healing style for chakra-aware guidance from a Reiki-informed perspective.
  • Notice your body. As you reveal each card, pay attention to any physical sensations in the area of the corresponding chakra. Your body often responds to the reading before your mind does.
  • Use it for energy check-ins. This spread works well as a regular practice — weekly or monthly — to track how your energy shifts over time. Compare readings to see which centers consistently need attention.
  • Journal with color. When you journal about a chakra reading, consider noting the color associated with each chakra alongside the card. The visual mapping helps deepen the connection between the tarot and the energy work.

The Chakra Energy Reading is a natural bridge between tarot and energy healing. Whether you are a Reiki practitioner, a meditator, or simply someone curious about the energetic dimension of the cards, this spread offers a framework for understanding yourself that goes beyond the mind and into the body.
